Letter of Recommendation

“Their experience highlighted dedication to their craft without any compromise to the branding and voice of our organization.”

- Jenn Lozano, Heart of the Father Ministries

Our recent collaboration with Friends Research Institute exemplifies the challenge and reward of smaller productions. Tasked with reaching a highly specific demographic—African-American women over 40 caring for loved ones with HIV/AIDS—we worked closely with FRI to breathe life into their well-researched, scripted curriculum to assist with their training practices.

Through meticulous planning and community engagement, we went beyond conventional casting, ensuring authenticity by featuring individuals from the target audience who shared their inspiring stories.

Treatment

For the Salt & Light Process training videos for IHS Global, Philamedia will collaborate closely with their team to develop a filming approach that effectively conveys the nuances of everyday gospel sharing. Given the narrative, situational format of the approximately 1-8-minute videos, our approach will focus on capturing authentic and relatable conversations between two characters. The total estimated time of content is approximately 16 minutes per series.

The cost estimates outlined below reflect two potential scopes of Philamedia's involvement: One estimate for the cost of the US-based series only, and one estimate for the cost of the US-based series and the Sub-Saharan Africa-based series combined.

For the shoot itself, we propose utilizing a two-camera setup. This configuration will allow us to capture both speakers effectively, providing sufficient coverage for engaging storytelling within the brief timeframe of each video. We believe two cameras will optimize efficiency and maintain a natural flow during filming, perfectly suited for capturing concise conversational scenarios. To ensure professional and engaging performances, Philamedia will handle the casting and management of experienced actors for these roles, with final casting decisions subject to IHS Global's approval.

Post-production will begin promptly after each potential shoot day. Footage will be efficiently processed to allow for timely review and feedback. Our goal is to deliver polished, impactful videos that align with IHS Global's vision for these training modules.

Technical Approach

Philamedia utilizes high-quality camera systems and lenses to ensure clear and professional visuals. The final videos will be delivered in high definition, optimized for online viewing and distribution. We are flexible and can provide deliverables in various formats as needed.

Location Considerations

Given the focus on everyday conversations, we envision filming in accessible and relatable locations, relative to the locations imagined in IHS’s scripts (e.g., a park, a coffee shop, a home). This approach will enhance the authenticity and relatability of the training scenarios. We would strongly recommend limiting the number of different filming locations to two per series, to ensure filming will not exceed one day for a given series. Additional shoot days are the largest detriment to cost-effectiveness. Our team is adept at maximizing the visual potential of diverse locations.

For any potential international locations, we will manage professional location scouts remotely to find, approve, and secure foreign locations. Additionally, we will utilize a US-based core team to be relied upon for any technical labor, so reliance on local labor is controlled and limited to casting, fixing, and locations.

Script Development

IHS Global will provide initial scripts, which will detail characters, location, and motivation. Philamedia's writers and creative team are available to offer feedback and suggestions at no additional cost to further enhance the clarity, impact, and natural flow of the dialogue to optimize it for acting/on-camera adaptation, should the client wish to explore this option.

This initial budget proposal reflects a streamlined production approach focused on delivering high-quality, concise training videos featuring professional talent, within the decided upon scope of work.

Have less budget to spend? More wiggle room?

Let us know! We’ll walk through the line items and show you how best to scale up or down the production.

⦿ Traditional Casting

We will utilize a deep casting network to find strong talent candidates that fit within IHS’s pre-determined demographics. If and wherever possible, we will also seek to find talent that share IHS’s gospel-centric values.

⦿ Locations Options

We’re prepared to use locations that fit tightly with the script, to limit the need for writing adaptation. This budget includes fees and insurance for any locations needed. It also includes reasonable travel costs for the option including foreign work.

⦿ Script Input

Our in-house Directors are always eager to refine and revise your scripts for shoot-ability and message clarity. A tight script that remains on brand is one of the most helpful ways we can set up our shoot days for success!

Out-of-House Rental Gear!

We can save an enormous amount of money by using small-format cinema camera and lighting equipment that Philamedia has access to in-house or within close networks. Most equipment costs are waived for this production, as we feel that we can shoot more efficiently with in-house gear.

Storyboarding

We don’t recommend storyboarding this project. Shot lists and script supervisors may be employed to keep things organized, but we feel that storyboarding would be redundant, subject to change, and inflate cost unnecessarily.

Talent Auditioning

Talent auditioning can be a massive cost for projects like this. Instead, we’d request talent self-tapes which are sufficient to learn actors’ abilities and would come at no cost to IHS Global.

Cost Per Minute of Finished Video

On average, commercial video and training content costs between $1,500-10,000 per minute of finished content. This budget maintains a relatively low per-minute cost, even with optional international content production.
